On his fathers “Shiraz” side
the great Stakkato is probably the most prominent. Stakkato created a sensation at his first appearance at the Bundeschampionate back in 1998. So wonderful was his jumping style that the judges wanted to give him a 10 – until one pointed out that one tiny part of the young stallion’s tongue was visible on one side of his mouth! So they had to settle for a 9.9. Fourteen years later, Stakkato was proclaimed Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2007.
Stakkato
Stakkato was born on April 4, 1993 on August Meyer’s farm in Uenzen, Germany. Andreas Mundt raised him and presented him at the stallion licensing in autumn 1995. The jumping lines of Servus and Gotthard are combined in his sire’s pedigree. His dam Pia successfully competed up to elementary show jumping level.
At her mare performance test, her jumping skills were judged with the perfect score of 10. Stakkato showed spectacular free jumping skills at the licensing in Verden so Dr Burchard Bade purchased him for the Celle State Stud. He went on to be the best jumper at his stallion performance test. Stakkato then took the jumping championship at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf in 1998. At the 1999 Bundeschampionate, he was reserve champion.
On his mothers “Lysanne” side
he comes from the great line of Ladykiller xx born in 1961 and bred by Mrs A. L. Adda (UK). When the German Warmblood breeders in the 60s and 70s turned to the Thoroughbred for refinement and athleticism, there were a number of important stallions that played a key role in the shaping the modern sport horse: none was more significant than Ladykiller xx.
While he stood in the far north of Germany, in Holstein, his influence continues to spread.
In 2002 the most expensive horse at the prestigious Fences Auction in France, was sold for €460,000. That horse was l’Arc de Triomphe, a world record for a three year old – and he is a direct descendant of the great Ladykiller xx, indeed with a double cross on the sire line since he is by Landor S – by Landadel by Landgraf by Ladykiller xx, out of Novella out of Furth, also by Ladykiller xx.
Ladykiller xx was born in England in 1961 but he was no star on the racetrack, racing three times in two years and rating only a 80.5 kilo handicap – which luckily for him, was 0.5 kilos more than the minimum required for a Thoroughbred stallion to be accepted into German breeding ranks. Before his death in 1979, he sired 35 stallion sons including the twin pillars of Holstein sport horse breeding: Landgraf and Lord.
Both, it should be noted, out of mares with a good percentage of Thoroughbred blood – Lord’s dam was a full Thoroughbred, while Landgraf’s dam was 25% Thoroughbred. Ladykiller xx’s breeding features all the usual suspects found on jumping Thoroughbred pedigrees – Blue Peter, Phalaris, Son in Law – the great descendants of Bay Ronald. who has been considered one of the greatest showjumpers of all times.
